Abstract

This paper reexamines an issue of copper coins of Heraclius’ years 25 and 26 that is usually
attributed to Nablus in Palestine and reassigns it to Limassol (ancient Neapolis) and Salamis
(Constantia) on Cyprus. This leads to a reappraisal of the Cyprus coinage of Heraclius’ regnal
years 17–19 and his Constantinople coinage of years 20–23 (which sometimes has a K in the
right obverse field). It concludes that these three groups form a continuous issue for use on
Cyprus, and/or for an army supplied from Cyprus, struck either on the island (years 17–19) or
at Constantinople for shipment to Cyprus (years 20–23) and again on Cyprus (years 25–26).
